Highlights of the week:

● In English we started the week by planning and writing a newspaper report about the villain in our traditional tale. We have been looking at Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs. After writing our newspaper reports we had a go at editing our writing against a success criteria. This helped us with identifying successes in our writing and also where to improve.

Highlights of the week:

● In English we have rounded up our unit about the Titanic by writing a newspaper report detailing the events of the Titanic. To prepare us for this, we started the week by exploring newspapers and identifying the key features of these. We then had a go at ‘setting the scene’ for the sinking of the Titanic, using expanded noun phrases and adjectives. We worked really hard to try and ‘paint an image’ in the reader's head. We were then able to use this writing to write our own newspaper article, including images and captions!

Highlights of the week:

● In English we stepped into character as someone on the Titanic. We had characters ranging from captains, first class passengers, third class passengers, trimmers, firemen and stewards. We then planned and wrote diary entries from our trip on the Titanic, as our chosen person. We have also looked this week at editing our own writing against a success criteria. We came up with several features that we wanted our diary entries to include, such as full stops, capital letters, expanded noun phrases and coordinating conjunctions and marked our own work based on this. The children enjoyed taking ownership of marking and editing their own writing!

Highlights of the week:

● This week has been a great start to the Spring Term! We had an amazing time at the Sea City Museum. The day was filled with lots of learning which was a fantastic way to start this inquiry question ‘Are we all equal?’ We participated in a discovery session around the museum where we learnt facts and heard stories about survivors from the ship. In our workshop we participated in four activities. The first was exploring the lifeboats and how they prioritised placing people on them. The second one was looking at artefacts from the Titanic, including binoculars. The third was exploring different parts of the ship by smell. The final one was a science experiment where we filled up different compartments of the model ship to see why it sank so quickly.

Highlights of the week:

● In English we started the week by looking at different sentence types. We sorted a range of sentences into questions, commands, exclamations and statements. We looked at the punctuation used in these sentences to help us determine the function of the sentence. We then received a Christmas card from Rosie Revere, asking us to create an information page about Tower Bridge. We gathered information using our work from last week, laptops and books to create a large information page which we then used to write a letter to Rosie detailing the information we had found.
