6th - 10th February 2023

Highlights of the week:

● This week we have recapped our letter groups that we have been learning recently such as ow, oa, igh, ie, ai and ay. The children have completed a range of activities such as ‘roll and read’ and matching games.
● We have then had a go at forming our letters correctly. We have been working on our pencil grip using our ‘froggy legs’ and trying to form the letters correctly using the word patters/rhymes to support us.

Core text:

● This week we have been reading The Selfish Crocodile by Faustin Charles and Michael Terry. We have explored the idea of helping others and looking at taking care of our oral health. We have looked at dentists and the work they do to help us keep our teeth clean. We then looked at what we can do to help keep our teeth clean and healthy!

● This week we have been learning about different forms of measure. We have been exploring length and height and measuring them using non-standard units of measure such as cubes, feet, hands, pens and fingers.

Afternoon tea:

● This week the children enjoyed planning and preparing for our Afternoon tea for our special person. The children enjoyed creating sandwiches for their special person using a range of skills such as cutting, slicing and spreading. The children enjoyed using our school kitchen.

Ambulance visit:

● This week the children enjoyed a visit from some paramedics in their ambulance linked to our topic on special jobs. They enjoyed exploring the ambulance and asking a range of questions.

Home learning ideas:

● Take some time to look through your child’s new phonics folder with them and pick out some pages to practise. You can record this as part of your child’s reading in their reading journal.
● Have you downloaded the new White Rose Maths app? If so your child could play some of the games on this to support them with their maths learning.
