Highlights of the week:

Phonics:

We have learnt the letter group -ng as code for /ng/ as in gong. We have also learnt the letter group -nk as code for /nk/ as in ink. We have sent home some flashcards for the words ‘my’ and ‘by’, please practise these as frequently as possible so that children can start to recognise these words by sight.

We have then had a go at forming our letters correctly. We have been working on our pencil grip using our ‘froggy legs’ and trying to form the letters correctly using the word patters/rhymes to support us.

Maths:

This week we have been exploring the composition of numbers 9 & 10. We have been exploring different ways of making 10. The children have used a range of concrete resources to make numbers 9 and 10 such as cubes, counters, part whole model, 5 & 10 frame and numicon. They have been exploring and recording different ways to make 9 and 10.

Jigsaw:

This week we continued our new unit of ‘Relationships’. We talked about how we need to be kind to our friends and thought about some of the things we say to our friends and how it may make them feel.

PE:

This week we continued our new unit for PE called ‘Jungle Gym’. This week we explored moving as animals, specifically as a monkey. The children remembered how to travel around the hall and the equipment safely. We then looked at climbing and jumping off of equipment safely. The children were challenged to see what sort of jumps they could do off of the table such as a star jump. We finished the lesson by playing ‘monkey mirror’ in which the children worked in pairs to mirror their partner.

Music:

This week we continued our new unit of music called ‘Big Bear Funk’. The children enjoyed listening to the song ‘I feel good by James Brown’ at the start of the lesson. We then talked about what they liked or did not like about the song. We explored the rhythm and pulse of the song. We then had a go at playing various notes on the glockenspiels and bells in time with each other. We worked on playing synchronised as a whole class.

Library:

Please remember to send in your library books and we will change these as a whole class on a Friday morning.

Home learning ideas:

  • Last week we sent home your NumBots logins. Can you have a go at playing and see how many levels you can complete!
  • Take some time to look through your child’s phonics folder with them and pick out some pages to practise. You can record this as part of your child’s reading in their reading journal. You may notice some handwritten flashcards tucked in the front of your child’s phonics folder. These words or letters are ones your child found difficult to read during their 1:1 reading activities. You will not always receive these.
  • Please can you remember to fill in any reading in your child’s reading record and remind them to regularly change their books.
  • Next week we will be learning number bonds to 5. By the end of the year children should be able to automatically recall number bonds to 5, can you explore some of the number bonds to 5?
