Highlights of the week:

Week 3 has been a busy week! We loved looking at the photos from our Science afternoon with Deer Park. We hope you enjoy them. I wonder if your child can remember what we were learning about?

In English we have been writing non-chronological reports on sea creatures. We have focused on writing in a formal way in the present tense. We have included expanded noun phrases to describe our sea creatures. We have written questions for our subheadings and checked we answer them fully in our following paragraphs. We have enjoyed finding our fun facts. I wonder if your child can remember their fun facts about their sea creature?

In Maths we have been learning about length. We have been measuring objects in the classroom to practise using a metre stick and a ruler. At first we found it tricky to neatly draw a line which is the correct length, however by the end of the week we were experts! We learnt that there are 100 centimetres in 1 metre and how to use ‘cm’ for centimetres and ‘m’ for metres. When comparing the lengths of different objects we have focused on using these signs ‘<, >, =’.

In Science this week we looked at habitats and different types of habitats we can find in the world. We went to the library to do some research on the different animals which live in the different habitats. We enjoyed using the books to read and find out more.

In PE this week we focused on dodging to get into a space and passing the ball in football. We played some fun games like dodge ball, bumper cars and space invasion. These helped us develop our key skills in a fun and exciting way. In gymnastics we made balancing poses with a partner. We explored different balances and positions where we could support and help each other. Once we had good balance we explored these balances on the benches.

In History we learnt about famous explorers in space. We researched and discussed what we found out about the race to space. Does your child remember any facts about Neil Armstrong?

Home learning:

  • Please complete the phonics worksheet on the alternative spellings of the ‘f’ sound.
  • Please support your child to complete the reading sheet.
  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is beneficial for supporting your child’s fluency in maths.
  • We need your help! Please can you bring in any cardboard boxes you may have? We will be using them in sculpture next week. Thank you
