25th - 29th April 2022

Highlights of the week:

We have had a great start to the Summer Term! We have been busy asking questions, exploring strategies and linking ideas. We have been introduced to our enquiry question this term which is ‘Why can humans choose where to live and animals can’t?’ We will explore this in many ways and follow our own lines of enquiry as we learn.

In English we have looked at The Big Book of the Blue By Yuval Zommer. You can look at the book with your child by following this link

We started the week by focusing on key language we found in the book by learning and discussing definitions. We then looked at the book and focused on four animals and learnt about them. We then researched these animals and described them by writing adjectives and making a poster about them, we used this poster to present our research to our classmates so they can learn the cool facts we’d found out. This lead us to looking at poetry and exploring poems written about sea creatures. We planned and wrote our poems ready to place in our class poetry book.

In Maths we have been learning about time. We have recapped our year 1 learning on the different hands on an analogue clock and o’clock and half past. After refreshing our knowledge we looked at quarter past and quarter to. We found this a little tricky at first but we soon got the hang of it. It was important to use the right vocabulary when telling the time and say ‘....past…’ and … to…’. Once we had an understanding of the language we looked at telling the time to the 5 minutes. We have enjoyed using our mini clocks to practice making the time and using it to help us in our work.

In History we have looked at explorers. We asked questions and talked about why people go exploring and what they want to find. We talked about how people explore and we wrote down any famous explores we already knew about. We then came up with questions about explores which we want to find out this term.

In RE we started looking at special books, this will lead onto looking at different religions and the books they have to help them. To aid our discussions please can your child bring in a special book or a photo of a special book next Wednesday (4th May 2022). The children would love to share their books with each other and talk about how much they mean to them.

Home learning:

  • Please complete the phonics worksheet on the alternative spellings of the ‘sh’ sound.
  • Please complete the reading sheet with your child.
  • Please can your child bring in a special book (or a photo of a special book) on Wednesday 4th May 2022 for RE.
  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is beneficial for supporting your child’s fluency in maths.
