18th - 22nd October

Highlights of the week:

This week we have been focusing on writing our stories in English. We spent time drawing a story map which helped remind us of how the story goes. We used the class story map to write about the beginning and middle of our story and then we planned our own story maps for the ending of the story. We read our stories to the year ones when they were finished.

In Maths this week we have been comparing number sentences and recapping number bonds. We have been working hard on our presentation in maths.

We continued to work on our prints this week in art. We added detail to our maps and combined our geography skills with our art. We included symbols and a key to our maps. We shared these with our friends and spent time describing our imaginary worlds.

In science we have been investigating how some materials can be changed. We made predictions about how a straw, pipe cleaner, sock, ruler, bath towel, elastic band and sponge could be changed. We then investigated and explained why and how they were changed.

In phonics this week we have been revising homophones and different strategies for spelling.

Home learning:

  • This week please make sure you continue reading with your child over half term and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. This may give them the opportunity to boost their Numbots level and get a certificate when they return. It is recommended that children play Numbots for 10 minutes a day for maximum impact.
