17th - 21st January 2022

Highlights of the week:

Week three has been a busy week!

In English we have been writing newspaper articles to report on the sinking of the Titanic. We have been looking at the audience we are informing and writing appropriately for them. This has been a great opportunity for us to record what we have learnt this week in history about the Titanic.

We have continued to explore multiplication and division in maths. We have looked at our 2, 5 and10 times tables. We have been exploring division by practising sharing and grouping which will lead us onto next week in looking at dividing by 2, 5 and 10.

Following on from our discussions on offspring last week, we looked at life cycles in science. We researched the life cycle of an amphibian and a mammal. We then discussed how we could present our findings. We chose to make models of life cycles out of salt dough. This showed the clear differences between their life cycles and how their offspring are born.

This week in Jigsaw we have learnt all about working as part of a team to achieve a goal. We set ourselves a challenge and found that to achieve this, we needed to work together as part of a team by setting ourselves lots of small goals. We discussed how achieving an overall goal and working together made us feel happy and proud.

In history we have been organising the timeline of events for the Titanic tragedy. This helped us learn about the key events and the key people involved.

As part of our throwing and catching unit we have been learning how to catch a ball in the air. We practiced jumping and catching a ball whilst on the spot and revisited some of our throwing techniques.

In phonics this week we have been focusing on alternative spellings for the /or/ sound. We have looked at the spelling ‘aw’ through a short story called ‘Strawberries’ and the au sound in a story called ‘The Audience’.

Home learning:

  • This week your child has a 2 times table game to play over the weekend or next week.
  • Please complete the phonics worksheet on the ‘aw’ and ‘au’ spelling.
  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is beneficial for supporting your child’s fluency in maths.
