Jigsaw

27th September - 1st October - posted 1st Oct

Highlights of the week:

After our Jigsaw session on ‘Our Learning Charter’ we discussed how we all have a part to play in the classroom. We have 30 different monitor roles which are essential in the classroom! We then got to sign up for a role and that is our responsibility in the class. We have discovered that we all need to do our role for the classroom to work. We also have a class dojo. This cute ‘monster’ keeps track of our dojo points we collect as the week goes on. We can get points for helping others, being on task, showing determination and teamwork.

Numbots

20th - 24th September - posted 24th Sep

Highlights of the Week:

We finished George’s Marvellous Medicine! We discussed why we thought the medicine didn’t have the same effect the second, third or fourth time. This brought up some interesting ideas and we practiced listening to others' ideas and respectfully disagreeing and why or agreeing because. We explored poems around the book and looked closely at George’s spell, which we had great fun acting out! We compared his spell with another from a much loved children’s book (Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson). This encouraged us to look at the rhythm of the poems and the rhymes. We are working on free verse poems and have read, researched and practiced some. This has set us up to write a class free verse poem about making our own medicines.

Highlights of the week:

In English we have started the year by focusing on George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. With Roald Dahl day on 13th September it has been great to start by diving into the story of George.
This week we have focused on expanded noun phrases. We can recognise them in a piece of text, write our own and apply them in our sentence writing.
We have been looking at punctuation and the use of exclamation marks. We looked at how these can impact our writing and our reading.
