We have been looking at ‘ew’ making an /oo/ sound as in ‘drew’ and ‘screw’ and an /yoo/ ‘new’ and ‘stew’. The children have been working very hard on hearing the differences between the sounds.
After the Easter break we will be targeting the sounds we have already looked at that the children may need a little more practise with.
This week we have continued to look at volume and capacity. We have looked at the words full, half full, empty, nearly full and nearly empty. The children enjoyed having the change to fill containers practically using these terms. We have also completed the volume and capacity assessment which the children have done very well in.
This week we completed our final piece of writing for our instruction unit. The children were shown how to make a bird feeder and then had to write their own instructions including a title, what you need section, number order and a safety warning. After writing their instructions the children were able to use them to make their own bird feeders. This was an activity that the children really got involved in and enjoyed.
In art this week we have looked at the artist Romero Britto, who is a Brazilian artist. He combines elements of cubism, pop art, and graffiti painting in his work, using vibrant colours and bold patterns. We learnt about primary colours and how mixing two of these colours would make a secondary colour. The children were then introduced to tint and shade. The children then completed their own art in the style of Romero Britto.
We hope everyone has a fantastic Easter break.
