9th - 13th May 2022

Highlights of the week:

We have started our new unit in English this week. Our teachers found an egg on the field and using our detective skills we thought it might be a dragon egg! This has helped us with writing descriptive words in our English work this week when we designed our own dragon!

In maths, we have continued to learn about grouping and doubling numbers. This supported our unit on multiplication and division. We started to look at putting our groups into arrays. We found that it was easier to count when the dots were lined up neatly.

As part of our revision for the screening check we have been looking at split digraph words this week, a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e and u_e. The children have been reading ‘alien’ words in short bursts throughout the day to help them become more familiar with these pseudo words rather than trying to make them into a word they are more familiar with.

In DT this week we made a sliding mechanism. The children all drew pictures of a castle and then had a feature that would slide. Some made a knight on a horse, others chose to have a dragon that ‘flew’ to and from the castle.

We have started to explore different materials as part of our science unit. The children had the task of identifying different materials before being sent on a hunt of the classroom to see if they could find objects that were rough, smooth, transparent or waterproof.

We have been using ScratchJr during our computing lessons. The children have shown great confidence in this programme and we are looking forward to challenging their skills in the coming weeks!

Home learning:

Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.

Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is recommended that children play Numbots for 10 minutes a day for maximum impact.
