31st January - 4th February

What a busy week we have had in school this week! Hedgehog Day was a big success and the children enjoyed lots of different activities throughout the day.

Homework for this week -

We will be sending home a phonics worksheet to support our learning of e_e and a_e. The worksheets contain nonsense words for the children to sound out.

Highlights of the week:

We started our new learning journey this week in English. Over the next couple of weeks we will be looking at fact files and non-fiction texts. We started our unit with a question activity to see if the children could independently write questions using the correct punctuation. As the unit moves on we will be exploring non-fiction texts in more detail so that we are all able to recall their features.

We started maths this week comparing numbers to 50 using different representations. The children got to use their knowledge of less than, greater than and equal to again. They are becoming more and more confident using these symbols. As we go into the last two weeks of this half term, we will be looking to consolidate any areas they may have found tricker.

In phonics this week we looked at the split digraphs a_e and e_e. The children have understood this code well and are confidently writing words now using the split digraphs they have been taught.

In PE we continued to look at how we can use the equipment in a safe way. The children have been working on bunny hopping over a bench and jumping from a height remembering to use their spongy knees to land in a safe way.

Home learning:

  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is recommended that children play Numbots for 10 minutes a day for maximum impact.
