28th March - 1st April 2022

Highlights of the week:

We have continued and completed our unit on instruction writing. We started the week by looking at the features of an instruction text, such as what you need, introduction, numbers etc. Then we revised the rules for making a word plural; adding s and adding es. The children have written some brilliant instructions for ‘How to Look After a Hedgehog’. We will be sending our instructions to the person asking for our help.

In maths we have continued our unit on capacity and volume. We got to use different containers discussing the difference between the capacity and the volume. We have looked at the volume of some items using vocabulary; full, empty, half-full, almost empty, almost full.

In Phonics this week we have looked at the letter groups; ‘gn’ as in gnome, ‘kn’ as in knight and ‘tch’ as in pitch. We have been also revising some of our common exception words. We will be sending home the assessment sheets with reading and spelling that the children need to learn.

We summed up our science unit this week on animals including humans. We found the animal groups amphibians and reptiles tricky to remember and what carnivore, herbivore and omnivore means.

In DT we began to make our bunting from recycled materials.

Home learning:

  • The children will be bringing home a worksheet to further consolidate their learning from this week. We have been pleased to see that so many of the children have been using Numbots! Well done!
  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is recommended that children play Numbots for 10 minutes a day for maximum impact.
