21st - 25th March 2022

Highlights of the week:

We have started our unit on instruction writing. We will be using the text ‘How to Catch a Star’ as our text for the next two weeks. The children started the week looking at some of the less familiar language within the story before being introduced to the book itself. The children got to use their note taking skills to research hedgehogs towards the end of the week. This is because Mrs Le Peuple found a note on the pavement asking for anyone who can offer advice as to how to look after a hedgehog and we thought the year 1 children could help out!

In maths we have moved onto the weight and volume topic. We got to use the scales and weigh different items from around the classroom to decide which were heavier or lighter than the other.

In phonics this week we spent some time revising ch, sh, th and qu. We have been noticing that some of the children have been confusing the sounds and we have had a few ‘Thriday’s’ or the letter group ‘ch’ being used in a word instead of ‘sh’.

We continued our science unit this week looking at our senses. We got to spend some time outside thinking about the different senses we could use in the fresh air. The children laid on the mound with their eyes closed and took in the sounds and smells of nature before recording it in their science books.

Homework for this week -

  • The children will be bringing home a worksheet to further consolidate their learning from this week.
  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • We have been pleased to see that so many of the children have been using Numbots! Well done! Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is recommended that children play Numbots for 10 minutes a day for maximum impact.
