For our geography and history unit after half term, we would like you to take some photos of Botley and your local area. We will be researching the buildings, shops, wildlife and vehicles within our community. Any photos you can provide to support this would be most appreciated.
This week we spent time working on our instruction writing. We wrote in stages so that we could be sure to include all of the features of instruction writing. We started with a title and ‘you will need’ section. We have been using our phonic knowledge to help us sound out some of the words. At the end of the week, we talked about editing our work and looked at ways we could make improvements. For example, some of us had forgotten to include capital letters and full stops. We also thought it would be useful to add numbers at the start of each instruction to make sure we knew what order to work in. You might like to ask us how to make a pizza: we are experts now!
During Maths this week, we have been spending time looking at all of the skills we have been working on this half term. After half term we will be re-visiting fact families as well as learning about subtraction.
This week in phonics we looked at the different codes for O and U. Rather than making the sound for each of these letters, in our words this week they made the sound of their letter name, for example, unicorn and yo-yo. We finished the week with a little assessment with the children. This will help us to plan going forward and work together to fill any gaps.
We concluded our science investigation this week. We had been growing cress under different conditions for 10 days. The children really enjoyed making observations about how the cress had grown. We found out that one of the most important factors when growing cress is to water it! The cress without water had not changed from a seed at all.
Over the past two weeks, we have been learning about different foods in French and Spanish. We have learnt how to say chocolate, grapes, banana and apple.
