16th - 20th May 2022

Highlights of the week:

We have been really enjoying Numbots in school as part of our early morning task. The children all have their log in details and are enjoying receiving certificates in assembly on a Friday when they pass their level. White Rose also has a free app on the app store called ‘1 Minute Maths’. It includes lots of additional activities that the children might enjoy - have fun!

This week we read ‘The Paper Bag Princess’, a story about a princess outsmarting a dragon. This led us onto a conversation about good and bad characters in stories and how we identify them as such. In guided reading, we have been working on retrieval and the children are becoming more confident at finding information to answer the questions about the story or characters.

We have moved onto our fractions unit in maths and started by investigating which shapes could fold into half equally. We talked about the importance of cutting something into half meant it had to be equal, otherwise Mrs Le Peuple might get a bigger slice of cake than Mrs Gray!

Our continued revision this week meant we looked over the au / aw (or) and ew (yoo/oo) letter groups. The children have, in the past, found these particularly tricky to recall so we have been playing lots of games online which seem to have boosted the children’s confidence with these sounds. We look forward to seeing you on Friday for the meeting about the phonics screening test at 2.50pm in the hall.

In music, we have been learning the notes B, A and G. We are improving week on week at playing the recorder and Mrs Gray has noticed that we are able to change notes in a much smoother way.

In Spanish this week, we spent some time recalling the different colours and their names in Spanish. We have definitely seen improvements in their pronunciation over the past few weeks naming the different colours.

Home learning:

  • Please make sure you are reading with your child at least four times a week and commenting on their reading in their reading record book.
  • Please support your child to access Numbots online. It is recommended that children play Numbots for 10 minutes a day for maximum impact.
