Egg

9th - 13th May 2022 - posted 13th May

Highlights of the week:

We have started our new unit in English this week. Our teachers found an egg on the field and using our detective skills we thought it might be a dragon egg! This has helped us with writing descriptive words in our English work this week when we designed our own dragon!

Highlights of the week:

We have been looking at lift-the-flap books this week as a different way authors provide information to us. We thought this was quite an exciting way of learning something new and so we designed our own class information page about castles using a lift-the-flap style.

Highlights of the week:

We have continued and completed our unit on instruction writing. We started the week by looking at the features of an instruction text, such as what you need, introduction, numbers etc. Then we revised the rules for making a word plural; adding s and adding es. The children have written some brilliant instructions for ‘How to Look After a Hedgehog’. We will be sending our instructions to the person asking for our help.

How to Catch a Star

21st - 25th March 2022 - posted 24th Mar

Highlights of the week:

We have started our unit on instruction writing. We will be using the text ‘How to Catch a Star’ as our text for the next two weeks. The children started the week looking at some of the less familiar language within the story before being introduced to the book itself. The children got to use their note taking skills to research hedgehogs towards the end of the week. This is because Mrs Le Peuple found a note on the pavement asking for anyone who can offer advice as to how to look after a hedgehog and we thought the year 1 children could help out!

Highlights of the week:

We have been looking at the structure of writing a story this week and had a go at writing our own stories. We started off using a story mountain to help us plan our story into a beginning, middle and end, before writing our own from our plan. Earlier in the week, we had a revision session looking at joining our sentences with ‘and’. Some of the children found this quite tricky and this will be something we keep returning to throughout the year.

Homework for this week -

We thought that we could include links to some of our favourite songs we sing in class for the holidays. The children have worked so hard in what, for some, is the longest period of time spent in school: well done! Therefore, there will be no homework worksheet for this break. Please do enjoy the songs if you can and keep going with Numbots and any reading at home.
