Pitta Pizza

11th - 15th October - posted 15th Oct

Highlights of the week:

We have continued to look at instruction writing this week. We found this particularly helpful when making our pizzas with Billy on Thursday. As part of our English input, we have been following a programme that helps us to recognise the different elements needed in our writing. This week the focus has been on recognising the spacing between our words and working on consistent letter sizing. We have found that it has helped us to think about our own writing, recognising where we need to leave finger spaces and how we need to try to not write one word over two lines.

Part Whole Model

4th - 8th October - posted 8th Oct

Highlights of the week:

We began to look at instruction writing in our English this week. Mrs Gray and Mrs Le Peuple had trouble on Monday making a jam sandwich following our instructions. It helped us to realise how instructions need key features. These include a ‘you will need’ section, numbers to help us follow an order and clear wording. We told Mrs Le Peuple to put butter on the bread and she put the whole tub on!

SMART Rules

27th September - 1st October - posted 1st Oct

Highlights of the week:

Our English this week has been linked to our learning about Harvest. We have been talking about different celebrations that take place in homes around the country. We focused on planning our own celebrations thinking about all of the things we would need to make sure that our guests had a good time. To finish our unit on The Enormous Turnip, we have been recorded reading our own stories onto the iPad. These will be played to the children in reception at different points during the term.

Highlights of the week:

In English we are continuing our work related to The Enormous Turnip. Over the course of this week and into the beginning of next, we will be writing our own story changing one element of the original story. We have each chosen the part of the story we will change, for example it could be that we write about a carrot instead of a turnip or that we have a different character in our story. As usual, we will be continuing to focus on using our capital letters, finger spaces and full stops independently within our writing.

The Enormous Turnip

13th - 17th September 2021 - posted 17th Sep

Highlights of the week:

In English we have started the year by focusing on the story of The Enormous Turnip. We worked in small groups to act out the story thinking about how hard the frail old man and all his helpers ‘pulled and pulled but it would not budge’. We have seen both turnip seeds and fully grown turnips in class which helped us to write our description of the turnip. We are working hard to remember our capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in our writing. We sent home a bookmark with some key language we will be learning about during this topic.
